June 27, 2015 - Grassroots Tour (CYRO) A briefing will take place at 11 AM at RFC. The tour will put about 2 hours on the Hobbes, and we expect to be back at Rockcliffe by 1500-1600, when we will enjoy a complimentary Barbecue ! See Spring 2015 Crosswinds for more details. The Century Flight Club has selected Ottawa, Ontario for their 2015 Flight. The dates this year are July 18th to the 22nd. The group flight launch from the West will be on July 15th. This Convention is the result of the experiences gained over the past 6 years, events with 1000 participants and over 1 million airmiles. The Century Flight Club was formed in 2009 on the 100th Anniversary of Flight in Canada. The Club's mandate was unique: to immerse a private pilot in aviation for a solid week with the goal to develop a better and safer pilot. On July 1, Canada Day, The Rockcliffe Flying Club will host its Annual Fly-In Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. $6.00/per person. This year we are serving pancakes and sausages, baked beans, rolls, coffee, tea and juice. We will be serving bacon and eggs for those who prefer the traditional RFC breakfast. Sightseeing Flights in a Cessna 172 will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. $35/per person. Registration is based at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. The flights will be based at the RFC. RFC AIR RALLY DETAILS June 20, 2015 This is a flight-planning and spotting exercise. It involves solving a number of clues on the ground as to the route to be flown. This typically takes about 30 minutes and is a bit like doing a cryptic crossword with a Toronto VNC. Once the route is worked out, the pilot estimates the time it will take to fly it (using nothing but an E6B, ruler, protractor, pencil and an estimate of the upper winds). Flying needs two or more people: the pilot and one or more observers. The pilot is responsible for flying the route safely (about 40 minutes in a C172) while the observer(s) answers a number of questions about objects on the ground. The observer…

May 23, Spring Clean-Up Once again we will be emerging from winter and returning our Club to its usual magnificence. We will have multiple jobs of varying degrees of fun, skill, fun, necessity, and fun. Spring Cleanup provides us with the opportunity to bring all of us together in a common cause and that is to present the community with a clean and vibrant Flying Club. Saturday May 23rd is our target date with May 24th being our rain day. The day will start at 8 am, coffee and donuts are provided along with pizza for lunch.
